Robert Shapiro was called to the Ontario Bar in 2006 and
joined the firm in 2007 as an associate, practicing
exclusively in the areas of intellectual property with
an emphasis on pharmaceutical patent litigation,
trade-mark applications and oppositions, and patent
prosecution. He has acted as counsel in matters before
the Federal Court of Appeal, Federal Court and the
Ontario Divisional Court.
Mr. Shapiro has written an article on patent rights
during times of emergencies with a focus on the anthrax
study, which was published in the Windsor Review of
Legal and Social Issues. Mr. Shapiro recently completed
his Master of Laws where he focused on the interface
between IP Law and Competition law while examining the
issue of Authorized Generics. Mr. Shapiro has also
presented at seminars on health law, and intellectual
property.
Mr. Shapiro graduated with distinction as a specialist
in chemistry from the University of Toronto in 2002 and
was concurrently working for a chemical synthesis
company. He went on to complete the joint JD/LLB
program at the University of Detroit Mercy and
University of Windsor, where he graduated magna cum
laude in 2005.
